Early Life and Education
Dr. Phil McGraw was born on September 1, 1950, in Vinita, Oklahoma. Despite facing familial strife and an alcoholic father, he persevered. As a teenager, he worked at an A&W Root Beer stand and Pizza Planet. Pursuing his education, Dr. Phil earned a football scholarship at the University of Tulsa and earned a B.A. in psychology from Midwestern State University.
Rise to Prominence
Dr. Phil's career in the media industry began with his work at the 'Pathways' self-help seminar company and Courtroom Sciences, Inc. During this time, he partnered with Oprah Winfrey as a relationship and life strategy expert. In 1998, he became a regular contributor on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' which catapulted his prominence. He then launched his own syndicated daily television show, 'Dr. Phil,' in September 2002, which resonated with audiences and enjoyed over 20 successful seasons.
Ventures and Accolades
Aside from his television career, Dr. Phil co-founded Doctor On Demand, a telehealth company that experienced significant growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also authored multiple best-selling books and established Stage 29 Productions and Peteski Productions. Dr. Phil has received accolades such as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and induction into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame.
Personal Life and Hobbies
Dr. Phil values his second wife, Robin Jo Jameson, and they have two children together. Outside of work, he finds solace in flying single-engine airplanes and enjoys the companionship of his rescue dog, Maggie. He also indulges in watching silly comedies and satisfies his intellectual curiosity by reading a diverse range of books.
